Description: Lynette Corby Nungurrayi, born 1958 at Papunya, Yamunturrngua (Mt. Liebig) Language Group Luritja commenced painting in about 1990 for papunya tula artists she now only occasionally paints for papunya as she is producing art for watiwayanu artists she depicts stories such asthe witchetty grub, snake and women’s dreaming. In her previous paintings she used some traditional iconography and realistic motifs of bush food, implements and human figures she has recently made a move into abstract depiction of her stories Lynette is featured in select collections and has had numerous exhibitions selected exhibitions 1995,1996,2002 Araluen Arts centre,Alice Springs; 1998,1999 Chapel off Gallery, melbourne; 2003 Chapel off Chapel (Watiwayanu Artists), Melbourne; 2003 Telstra NATSIAA. Lynette Corby works in several mediums, as well as painting in acrylics and screen-printing onto garments. She is also a former assistant teacher of Luritja, written and spoken language. Lynette's paintings are gaining a considerable following, and her work has been part of several exhibitions, including the 2003 Telstra Awards Survey Show. Lynette was chosen for the 20th Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award Survey Exhibition. The painting, Women's Law and Culture Meeting at Mt Liebig, is now in the collection of the Art Gallery of South Australia. This rare Women’s Dreaming depicts the changing style of Western Desert Artist’s a continuing evolution commenced by Barney Daniels, Maxi Tjampitjimpa & World renown Eunice Napangardi. The fleck style gives the painting a new dimension & depicts women gathering 3 main food sources, witchety grubs, honey ants & yarla (bush potato). The background colours & dots reflect the colours of the area as Mt Liebig. This painting painted in 1986 is one of the very early paintings created combining both fleck & dotting & was exhibited in July 1990 in London along with Clifford Possum Exhibition. An offer of $18000 was tendered & refused for this beautifully executed rare artwork. A highly collectable rare investment at a great sale price
