Description: In Aboriginal life where people sleep under the stars with little shelter, they are aware of nearly every star in the heavens and most of these stars have stories associated with their origins. All over Australia, it is believed that the stars and planets were once men women and animals in Creation time. The Milky Way is considered by Aboriginals as a visual representation of the microcosmic system within each person. Tracking the inner self knows the pathways of the Milky Way In the south west of the Northern Territory in the Pitjantatjara country, the seven sisters travelled over a vast expanse of country until they discovered that they were being pursued by a man called Wati-Nyiru. He was a devious person who wanted to seduce the seven sisters & have ownership over them, so the women were afraid of him. They tried to hide from the man in caves; however he began disguising himself as many different things to deceive them. With little hope of relief from the pursuer, the seven sisters escaped to the Milky Way where they became the stars of the Pleides constellation. There they are safe and at rest and watch out over all the women on earth. Wati-Nyiru followed them to the heavens, and became the star of Orion, unable to get near them as they move across the night sky. A beautifully executed work
