Description: Sade (Numbin) Carrington was born on Texas Downs Station 14 October 1957. She was educated at Beagle Bay and then Perth. She grew up and worked in the Homestead at Texas and married Churchill Cann when she was a young girl. In 1980 she joined her many Kitja relatives at Turkey Creek. Sade (pronounced Sadie) and Churchill have three children, Dolorosa, Charlene, and Glen. All three paint, with Charlene being already a recognised artist destined to become internationally known as are both per parents. Sade has travelled extensively with her art both Australia-wide and to Europe. She has exhibited in London and Holland, and was invited to return to demonstrate her technique in ochre painting. She is always well-presented, extremely articulate and an obviously well-appointed ambassador for our country. Her paintings reflect the Dreaming stories of the Kitja people – her knowledge of the country she paints is accurate, and she has as many stories to tell as Churchill, which is a “very hard act to follow”. Artist’s Description: - I have painted Piccaninny Julin in Wet Time, at dusk, with the cone shaped hills looking dark and unforgiving – we camped round the waterholes in the dry time – good fishing then, and safe swimming holes. Great memories – of my childhood on Texas. An excellent investment
