Description: The country associated with this painting is Mina Mina to the far west of Yuendumu, is significant to Napangardi & Napanangka women who are custodians of the Dreaming that created this place. This Dreaming describes the journey of a group of women of all ages who travelled east gathering food & collecting Ngalypi (snake vine). They performed ceremonies as they travelled. The women began their journey at Mina Mina where Karlangu (digging sticks) emerged from the ground. Taking these implements with them the women travelled east creating Janyiki & other sites. Their journey eventually took them beyond Warlpiri country. Along the way they collected mushrooms & created water holes. The wavy lines are Ngalyipi or snake vine which grows on the trucks & boughs of Desert Oak, a versatile vine with many traditional uses, a strap to hold coolamons & as a headache cure when tied around the forehead & a ceremonial wrap. After rain the women walk along the creek beds looking for bush mushrooms which sporn after rain. The U shapes represent the Napangardi and Napanangka women who are the owners of this story.
