Description: June’s intricate striking design depicts the mulga seed sites in the area of the artist’s birthplace. It is an important bush tucker source, and is only found at certain times of the year. The women collect and grind the seed, mixed with water to make a paste & cooked to make damper. It is found throughout most of the Utopia region (Central Desert, Northern Territory). To ensure the fruiting of the Mulga tree each season, the women paint their bodies with the U shape designs depicted on this painting to celebrate & pay homage to the mulga seed and perform their sacred ceremonies.
